Unto the populace of the Barony of Settmour swamp do Baron Alexander Macgregor and Lady Rhiannon de Licorne send greetings.
We would like to take this opportunity to explain why we are running for Baron and Baroness and to give you some ideas of what we would like to accomplish in the next four years.
Alexander has severed several times as Baronial Seneschal most recently he was seneschal during the first three years of Their Excellencies Teric and Paigan’s term as Baron and Baroness. Currently he is the Baronial exchequer.
Lady Rhiannon served for many years as the Barony’s Arts and Science officer and is currently the Barony’s Mistress of Lists. She has also hosted Baronial meetings, craft guilds and dance practices.
Between us we have each autocrated almost every type and size of event the Barony has run. In addition Lady Rhiannon has cooked many feasts. When not autocrating or cooking we can be found at Troll, Running / helping with Royal room, doing setup, clean up or serving. Demos and teaching are also an important part of what we do as a Barony and we have both taught various classes and participated in many demos.
As you can see we are interested and active in many facets of the SCA. We would like to promote all aspects of our society and encourage all our members to pursue their own favorite pastimes but to also to experiment and try other activities.
One of the things we would like to see again in the Barony is regularly scheduled populace meetings. These can serve as a venue for individual as well as group projects, workshops, classes and event planning. They would be a good forum for Swampies to socialize and also keep in touch with what is happening and being planned in the Barony.
While in a group of this size large events are common, we would like to encourage some small scale themed events and scholas. These can be focused on a specific time period, culture, craft, martial art, etc. The possibilities are endless.
While running events is important, it is not the only way for a Barony to come together. We would like to encourage some non-event based activities. One possibility is that we could do some field trips together, a spring trip to the cloisters in NY so we can tour the gardens and the museum is just one example. There are many local museums we could visit over the years.
We would also like to hear your suggestions, what is on your wish list? If we all contribute some of our ideas, our time and make an effort we can enrich this medieval life experience for ourselves and each other. We can share our knowledge and passion for our own interests with others, learning from each other in a spirit of friendship and above all have fun doing it.
Together we will continue the traditions of this Barony and create some new ones to keep us the best Barony in the known world.
