Baronial Champions competitions

Saturday

Arts and Sciences Champion - Feena Iriksdottir

The competition ran throughout the day.

Entrants should bring along a short piece of documentation with their entry; one paragraph or page is sufficient (such as a picture of the basis for their work, or a brief explanation of their research and bibliography), so that all can learn more about the fine work of the artisans of the Barony, and may be inspired to try the crafts themselves.

Members of the populace will help determine the Arts Champion by placing their token next to their favorite entry. (Companions of the Manche will have five tokens to place; Companions of the Laurel will have ten tokens, as will the Baron and Baroness.)

Fencing Champion - Griffyn Cleisiog ap Madoc

The tournament was run in the same format as King's & Queen's Fencing Champions: a round-robin, leading into an elimination round/finals.

Archery Champion - Roderick of Hastings

The theme of the tournament was "A Sea Voyage with Marco Polo."

The Money Bags

You have decided to join Marco Polo on his voyage and are in need of money to pay for your passage. You must shoot one of the two suspended bags of money. A hit on the bag, or any shot that causes movement of the bag counts. 12 points for a hit on the first shot, 6 points if two arrows are needed, 3 points if three arrows needed.

The Pirate Ship

You are on the high seas, and the lookout spots a pirate ship approaching (the ship of the dread Pirate Roberts). You must get the ship to turn aside from its pursuit. You are allowed six arrows - hits on the hull, mast, or crow's nest score 2 points, hits on the sails, water, or on the paper score 1 point.

The Sea Serpent

You must defeat the sea serpent that has risen from the sea. You are allowed six arrows - hits on the serpent score 2 points each.

The Mongols

At the end of your voyage, you must fight your way through the attacking Mongols. This is a timed shoot. You must hit each target once. Then you may continue to shoot at whichever target you choose until time runs out. Only hits to the body will count, not the sword, or the tassel or trailer fur of the hat. Hits score 2 points each.

Bardic Champion - Trixie

The competition was held Saturday evening around the campfire. All musicians, poets, singers, dancers, and other performers are encouraged to share their talents for the delight of those assembled.

Sunday

Champion of Arms - Gui avec Cheval de Guise

Critter, the current Baronial champion, ran an oxhide/bearpit tourney. He provided short swords and round buckler shields for all the fighters to use. Fighters who stepped off or were forced off the oxhide lost their bout.

Thrown Weapons Champion - Quinn the Mighty a Bheithir

The current Champion will help determine the style and format for the competition.
