Eirik and Merlynia, Baron and Baroness of Settmour Swamp, send greetings to our esteemed neighbors in the East Kingdom, and hope that this missive finds you well and warm by your hearths.

We have consulted with those wise in the ways of weather foretelling, and they assure us that the winter will be a short one. Therefore, we invite you to make the journey to our lands so we may all celebrate the coming of spring at Mudthaw on March 10, 2001. This year we have a special reason to celebrate — it was 20 years ago that their Majesties saw fit to gift these lands to the first Baroness of Settmour Swamp, Magda z Stalburg.

Our steward is planning a day of pastimes for all: a tournament of arms, fencing, a youth (boffer) tournament, and divers springtime games. A Pysanky class will be taught (egg decorating using a wax-resist method). There will be tables set aside in the hall for an exhibit of arts; please bring your work to display! We are honored that we will have Their Majesties in attendance, and Her Majesty Isabella invites members of the populace to visit with her at a Queen’s Tea. A simple lunch will be set out in the early afternoon. A full schedule is available.

As previous visitors can tell you, the Mudthaw marketplace always has an abundance of merchants’ wares! A large portion of the hall will be set aside for merchants; spaces are available at $5 each (with use of the hall’s tables). Merchant spaces usually fill up before the event; to reserve space, please contact Kynna Grand at 732-390-0506; suzanne@granndgarb.com; FAX 730-390-1694. You can even visit with some of the merchants ahead of time.

We are planning a splendid feast. We also have ample space off-board if you prefer to bring your own repast, and will provide you with bread and beverages. A seat at the feast is $15; off-board seats are $8. If you will be supping elsewhere, the day price is $7. Prices for children under 13 years old are: $8 feast, $4 off-board, $3 day fee; there is no charge for those under 3. Please let us know if you can attend, so we may prepare for your arrival. Send a check made payable to “SCA, Inc. – Barony of Settmour Swamp”, the full SCA and modern names of all in your party, the type of reservations, and a SASE (or address where we can reach you), to the autocrat (see below). You will receive in return a letter from us to ensure your safe passage to our lands (please present it at the Express Check-In table). Those attending the feast please take heed: the check-in table will close at 5:00 pm, and unclaimed reservations will be sold off to those waiting. Our Chancellor of the Exchequer asks us to remind you that there will be no refunds at the event, unless your seat at the feast can be resold to another person.
